 Biljana Zecevic – Instructor and Artist

I enjoy art and freedom of creative expression, and through most of my life have been lucky to do what I enjoy most. I have created hundreds of portraits as a freelance artist living in Croatia, Spain and Germany. I hold a BFA from the University of Sarajevo and a BEd from UBC, and have been teaching art in public schools in West Vancouver and private schools in Vancouver. I like to follow the path of intuitive creativity and possibilities that present themselves when the mind and heart are engaged. Creativity finds its own expression when minds are curious and open.

I am the President of the Capilano Faculty Association at Capilano University, manage the innovative Interactive Design program, deliver the impactful community-based Parents as Career Coaches workshop series, and consult in education technology investments for the Gerson Lehrman Group out of New York, NY.

I am a highly experienced trainer, educator and technology consultant who is passionate about utilizing technology to make learning more effective, engaging and personalized in both the public education and corporate training sectors. I also enjoy helping non-techies get on board! I am the Trainer and Sales Manager at Zen Portfolios. My past work experience has included working with Deloitte, Capilano University, Cayenta, BC Bearing Engineers, Edmentum, Plato and the Vancouver School Board.

I am currently pursuing a PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at UBC, where I design and fabricate Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) such as pressure sensors and ultrasonic actuators using 3D printers and other deposition equipment. I worked as an Electrical Design Engineer for 2 years at General Electric in Mexico, and hold a BSc in Electromechanical Engineering and an MSc in Electrical Engineering from the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí, México.

I am a faculty member at Capilano University and BCIT, teaching entrepreneurship and technology courses. I have been involved with entrepreneurship for twenty years, most recently as the founder of ZEN Portfolios and Co-Founder of Zen Launchpad and Zen Maker Lab. I enjoy teaching people of all ages how to commercialize products, turning their ideas into reality. I have a B.Sc. from the University of Guelph and an MBA from the University of British Columbia.

I am a Partner at Ethical UX, a design agency located in Squamish, BC, that works with progressive businesses building purposeful and industry defining digital experiences, with a focus on market driven software with social impact.

I received my PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Alberta and most recently have served as the Vice President Academic of Concordia University College of Alberta. Concordia’s priority is to prepare its learners for a future that is very difficult to predict. My responsibility was to ensure its learning environments utilized innovation to stimulate critical and analytical thinking, and that equipped its graduates to effectively communicate as they tackle global challenges. I have since moved west and am now a Learning Technology consultant at BCIT.

I am an Electrical Engineer with a passion for electronics and automation. My past work includes design of various stand-alone automated testing systems to test prototype hardware, datalogging techniques and interfacing with different communication protocols (SPI, I2C, CAN), Automated Data Analysis software design, schematic capture and PCB design, and hardware assembly. I have a Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering from UBC and am the Secretary for the APEGBC Richmond/Delta branch.

I am a trained floorball, hockey, and golf instructor, with a technology, sales and marketing background. I believe in taking action to change lives through modern sport education and community development. I have been called a renegade, visionary and a startup guru, entrepreneur and storyteller. I am currently the Founder and CEO of the Floorball Academy Plus where we are developing a new ‘team sport’ floorball resource center for schools, hockey associations and community centers with a cutting edge framework. In the sport development world I am an ambassador to the largest Social | Mobile network in Hockey, I serve as Board Member and Past-President of the BC Floorball Federation, and also chair the board of the North Vancouver Sport Council.

 

Nathan Dolton – Instructor, Secure Design LLC
I have a passion for computing science and the internet of things. From a young age I was enthusiastic about technology and was able to leverage my knowledge and skills into some interesting projects that have real world implications.  I am the Founder of Secure Design LLC where we create micro controllers and Smart sensors, utilize and customize opensource solutions, manage network of connected devices, do Security Audit & Vulnerability analysis For IOT Devices and networks and do R&D for smart devices and automation.

I am the founder of Warmer Sun, an education startup that is aiming to prepare children for an exponential future. Warmer Sun is identifying emerging technologies that are expected to skyrocket in the next 10-15 years and introducing them to children aged 8 and up in a fun and self-driven manner. Tamas is a senior software engineer and has worked with clients such as T-Mobile, Boeing and Vision Critical.
